Definitions and Application Notes

Detector Material
In addition to the present lines of Lead Sulfide and Lead Selenide detector devices, SensArray Infrared also offers Silicon Avalace and Germanium Avalance Photodiodes, Indium Gallium Arsenide (1.3-1.55µ), Indium Gallium Arsenide (2.1µ peak), Indium Gallium Arsenide (3.3µ peak), and Indium Antimonide PV photodiodes (single and multi-element format). If your requirements dictate other spectral lines or other detector materials please inquire as to availability. back to form
Application Wavelength(s)
If your application requires a particular wavelength or several wavelengths, then a specific spectral wavelength or spectral range may be requested. Since SensArray Infrared detectors can be optimized for certain wavelength regions and supplied with integrated optical filters, please do not hesitate to tell us what your spectral requirements may be. back to form
Source Modulation Frequency
Operating Frequency or frequency response should be identified since photoconductors respond differently to modulation radiation. Frequency response is a plot of signal voltage output as a function of modulation frequency of the input radiation. It is helpful to know your operating frequency requirements for these devices. back to form
Load Resistance
Since lead salt devices are intrinsic photoconductors operating, for the most part, in voltage mode, a series bias resistor is required for optimum signal to noise conditions to prevail. This device is usually matched to the cell resistance for maximum power conditions. back to form
Bias Voltage
Lead Salt devices are at quiescent or optimum bias conditions for signal and noise at approximately 20 volts per square millimeter of active area. back to form
D* or D*Jones
D* is an area dependant figure of merit defined as the rms signal-to-noise ratio in a one hertz bandwidth per unit rms incident radiant power per square root of detector area. D* is further defined as response to a monochromatic radiation source or as response to a radiant blackbody source. Please specify D* in terms of spectral (l)  or blackbody (BB). back to form
Test Temperature
The test temperature should be defined as close to the actual operating temperature as possible. Devices can be operated at ambient temperature, moderately cooled with a thermoelectric cooler, or cooled to mid range with closed cycle or liquid coolant. These devices require special packaging. back to form
Responsivity
A measurement of the dependence of the signal output of a detector upon the input radiant power. Please specify in terms of blackbody reference temperature or spectral (l) responsivity. back to form
Time Constant (Responsive Time)
Signal voltage output as function of the modulation frequency of the input radiation. Time constant is given by the point at which the voltage output is 3db or 0.707 down from zero frequency. Please specify required time constant range. back to form
